Press Release 1699 “Wednesday of the Retirees”
There is a popular saying that goes “Don’t ask the elm tree for pears.” This assertion is rigorously true and contains a great truth.
Placing it in the reality that we live in would be “Don’t ask their enemies to legislate and manage in favor of the workers.”
The presidential vetoes of the Retirement Mobility Law and the University Financing Law were ratified thanks to the support they received in the Chamber of Deputies from the legislators representing the right and the extreme right and from the mercenaries of other partisan sectors who sold their votes in exchange for who knows what personal favor.
These facts clearly show that the real power (the transnational and national economic power) can rest easy because its managers and servants (Javier Milei and his entire government, the “dialoguing” opposition) are obedient and diligent.
We cannot be mistaken in analyzing these facts. Many of those who did not support the vetoes (members of the UCR, HCF, CC) are, however, the same ones who approved the President's Ley Bases and its most harmful provisions, which include exceptional powers, and also proposed a labor reform that is more anti-worker than the one proposed by the government, which has as its main purpose the weakening and elimination of unionism.
Therefore, having gone through this stage, it is very clear to us that our fate depends on us, the workers, both active and retired.
The National Coordinating Board of Retired and Pensioner Organizations of the R.A. reiterates its commitment to the struggle of the working class in general and of retirees in particular within a framework of great unity.
