More than a thousand workers, mostly retirees, took over the area around the National Congress on Wednesday, February 19, as they have been doing for 35 years. Despite the threatening and aggressive presence of hundreds of federal police, agents of the Gendarmerie and the National Prefecture, these worthy workers marched around the so-called “house of democracy” and carried out the longest traffic light checkpoint in living memory, in front of the eyes of Patricia Bullrich’s henchmen.

Once again the national government gives unequivocal signs of what its objectives are. It does so by ordering the increases for the retired sector starting in February. They fill their mouths saying that retirees do not lose with inflation but that is not true. The increase for February (2.7%) is applied to the minimum income but not to the $70,000 bonus, which is part of the income and has been frozen since March 2024. Conclusion: the increase varies between 2.1 and 1.9% far from the 2.7% announced. Let us agree that they are all misery but they do not even respect their word.

A new year has begun and contrary to what some may suppose, the Government’s misdeeds to the detriment of retirees are the same as those it has been doing since its inauguration, but corrected and increased. Surely the relaxation, a product of the colored mirrors offered to certain social sectors thanks to an artificially cheap dollar, makes one presume a prosperous course in the economic field.

Retirement age to be raised by 3 years in Panama

The Panamanian government presented a bill Wednesday in the National Assembly to raise the retirement age by three years in an attempt to clean up the public pension system, which is in danger of bankruptcy.
