Dear PEF Retiree Member,

We want to take this opportunity to thank all our retiree members who emailed, phoned, or wrote to legislators urging rejection of the budget items that would have negatively impacted retirees. Your participation helped to make our position known and to stop the cuts that would diminish our benefits. Below are the results of the impact we reached in this year’s budget negotiations with the help of many, including PEF active members and the PEF Legislative Office:

On Saturday 17th of April a  massive demonstration to the Presidential Palace organised by the Initiative for the abolition of the 12% penalty on the pensions of those retiring at 63 and not 65. Among those who addressed the meeting was the General Secretary of the class-based trade union federation of PEO and Costas Skarparis  the General Secretary of the Union of Cypriot Pensioners EKYSY.

The WFTU Secretariat has been informed by the TUI of Pensioners and Retirees of its current campaign of spreading and extension of its demands.

The First secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, coordinator for the Former Socialist Countries of the International Trade Union of Pensioners and the Retired of the World Federation of Trade Unions, Sergey Skvortsov recorded a video message to pensioners. CES and ITUC trade unions support imperialism

I am a leader of the FSM SME UIS and as Head of the FSM in the Spanish state.

We welcome and support the proposals made by George Mavrikos, as S.G. of the FSM, and in particular two of them: 1) the holding of similar symposia by countries and by each of the UIS; and (2) the dissemination of a Memorandum of Solidarity signed by trade unions and anti-imperialist policies.
