Militant and assertive district conference of EKYSY.

The district conference of EKYSY was held with fighting spirit and

assertiveness today, Tuesday 18 February, in Nicosia, highlighting the

key issues that concern pensioners. Within the framework of the

conference, the participants proceeded to a symbolic protest,

demanding the abolition of the 12% penalty on pensions for those who

choose to retire at the age of 63, the adoption of immediate measures

On Saturday 17th of April a  massive demonstration to the Presidential Palace organised by the Initiative for the abolition of the 12% penalty on the pensions of those retiring at 63 and not 65. Among those who addressed the meeting was the General Secretary of the class-based trade union federation of PEO and Costas Skarparis  the General Secretary of the Union of Cypriot Pensioners EKYSY.

During the last months the pensions in Cyprus have organised a number of demonstrations against the neoliberal policies implemented by the Cyprus government. The pensioners under the leadership of EKYSY PEO demonstrated against the  cuts in Easter bonus and demanded the implementation of the National Health System.
