
Militant and assertive district conference of EKYSY.
The district conference of EKYSY was held with fighting spirit and
assertiveness today, Tuesday 18 February, in Nicosia, highlighting the
key issues that concern pensioners. Within the framework of the
conference, the participants proceeded to a symbolic protest,
demanding the abolition of the 12% penalty on pensions for those who
choose to retire at the age of 63, the adoption of immediate measures
to address the high prices that particularly affect pensioners, their
support for the cost of purchasing medicines not covered by the
General Health System, and improving legislation to grant widows'
pensions to all male widowers.
The main speaker at the Conference was the Secretary General of
EKYSY, Costas Skarparis, while the District Secretary of PEO Nicosia
and member of the Secretariat of EKYSY, Eftichios Papamichael,
addressed a greeting.
The pensioners demand an immediate meeting with the President of
the Republic to discuss the issues that concern them.
