PENSIONERS IN INDIA OBSERVE ‘PENSIONERS DAY’
In 1982, on 17th December, the Supreme Court of India delivered a landmark classic judgement defining in clear terms that government officials cannot deny statutory pension being benefitted by government pensioners. The five member constitutional bench of Supreme Court of India defined what is pension and how it is regulated as per the constitution of India. The said judgment had its longstanding impact on the pension of millions of pensioners in India.
Therefore, the pensioner’s community in India observe 17th December every year paying respectful tributes to late Mr. D S NAKARA, who was instrumental in getting the landmark judgement and explaining various issues concerning pensioners the world over. Branches of all India BSNL Pensioners welfare Association all over India observed the Pensioners Day on 17th December 2014 with enthusiasm and held meetings, charity work etc.
