Press Release 1714 “Wednesday of the Retirees”
Many people think that Javier Milei’s violent ways were a communication strategy for his media presence and, by extension, for the electoral campaign. However, it has been almost fourteen months since he assumed the presidency of the Nation and his speech not only continues to be aggressive but is increasingly so. It is no longer just about insulting on social networks and in news articles. His government actions show him as a sadist who enjoys causing pain to others day after day. He celebrates the dismissals of thousands of state workers, the closure of important and strategic areas of the State, the condemnation to poverty of millions of workers. We, the retirees, continue to be, in this official scheme, a favorite target. Miserable retirement benefits, an attempt to eliminate the pension moratorium, a drastic reduction in PAMI benefits -especially in medicines-, a proposal to use the Sustainability Guarantee Fund to benefit the businessmen who represent the dominant economic power, of whom the President is a submissive and groveling employee and whom he calls "heroes" because they evade taxes and flee capital. However, this whole series of measures is accompanied by a menu of high-sounding public declarations, which they try to translate into concrete political actions. For this government of hunger, the enemy to combat is not the hunger and misery of the working people. The enemy is the different, the "other" (among them the retirees because "they are superfluous and a burden"), who does not fit into their ideal society. We read and hear Milei and many of her officials raise homophobic, misogynistic, xenophobic, discriminatory speeches, even going so far as to use words that define an illness to describe a person. Without entering into theoretical debates, we can take a certain license to define these actions and therefore the president and his government as typically fascist. Precisely his speech at the Davos Forum defines it perfectly, especially when he characterizes the people who are members of the LGBT+ community as criminals. From there to criminalizing them legally or illegally is a small stretch. It must be taken into account that when these sympathizers of the genocidal dictatorship speak of a “cultural battle” they refer to much broader and deeper objectives than a mere change of economic model. To begin with, they are not interested in bourgeois democracy but rather they promote the global government of the big capitalists (Elon Musk, Jeff Besoz, Mark Zuckerberg) that Macri tried to implement in his government through the “cabinet of CEOs”. That is why they praise Argentina at the end of the 19th century, governed by a parasitic oligarchy that condemned the working class to live in misery. Faced with this terrible situation, which will only get worse as the days go by, what is needed is combative and united action to stop this government offensive. The National Coordinating Board of Retired and Pensioner Organizations will continue to promote all debates and initiatives resolved by the retiree organizations as a way of defending our legitimate rights, which we have won and those yet to be won, and as a concrete way of adding our contribution to the struggle of the entire working class.
